At the 17th World Travel Awards (WTA), the Walt Disney World Company took home two awards for Adventures by Disney, its family luxury tour division. Adventures by Disney was named the 2010 World’s Leading Luxury Tour Operator and the 2010 North America’s Leading Tour Operator. This is the second consecutive year Adventures by Disney has been named the winner in those categories.
Adventures by Disney, which was launched in 2005, specializes in guided family vacations to places across the globe, including Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia. Among Adventures by Disney’s 25 global itineraries in 2011 are “Enchanted China,” “Safari to South Africa,” “Alpine Magic,” “Treasures of the Galapagos,” “Rocky Trails and Mountie Tales” and its new Egypt trip, “Pyramids, Pharaohs & Ancient Treasures.”
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, located on Disney property, also won a 2010 World Travel Award for North America’s Leading Resort. The WDW Swan and Dolphin has received that honor five times since 2005.
Established in 1993, World Travel Awards is dedicated to raising standards and promoting excellence in all areas of the global travel and tourism industry. The “Wall Street Journal” has called the awards “the travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscars.”
In 2010, nominations for the WTA included 5,000 companies in 1,000 categories and represented 162 counties. Winners reflect the votes of 183,000 travel industry professionals, representing travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations from across the globe. The Grand Final 2010 Ceremony in which winners were recognized was held Nov. 7 at London’s Grosvenor House hotel.
