Travelers to Los Angeles County set two records in 2012: a record 41.4 million visitors (an increase of 2.5 percent over 2011) who spent 16.5 billion dollars (a 7 percent upswing over 2011). The figures were released in a study this year by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.
Travel adventurer and writer-entrepreneur Charley Boorman has a passion for meeting people and digging into the richness of cultures around the globe. He sheds a positive light on his travels to the States.
The British native who grew up in the film industry rode into Santa Monica and Venice in the summer to wrap up a six-week adventure as host of "Extreme Frontiers: USA," the latest work from Big Earth Productions.
"The great thing about America is that there’s a bit of everything for everyone from the most beautiful deserts to incredible skiing or heading down to the Everglades or the swamps of New Orleans and Mississippi.
"There’s such diversity of frontiers, and some of them are extreme! I think that America has so much to offer, especially with a road trip – be it on a motorcycle or a car or whatever. You can see the most incredible landscapes that change so dramatically, with a huge amount of culture to offer and amazing food it’s just such a fascinating place. And of course it’s brilliant for English speaking people!"
The show was produced in partnership with the Brand USA Tourism initiative, an effort to encourage increased international visitation to the United States and to grow America’s share of the global travel market.
Charley is an example of someone who has turned a passion into a career. "I’ve been very lucky in the fact that my father is a film director and from a very early age I traveled with him around the world on location for films…and I have been doing it ever since."
