Are you looking for a new job? Considering a career change? Do you want the stability offered by a large corporation, but you are a bit scared of getting lost in the shuffle?
Well, despite what you might think, there are actually quite a few advantages of working for a large corporation, and that might be where you want to direct your job search!
While it might seem like working with a small company with a defined organizational structure and a bright future ahead would offer a lot of growth opportunities, working for a large corporation will as well – and often it will be much easier for you to develop your career. Large corporations tend to have well laid out career paths – making it easy for you to identify potential next steps, and what you need to do to get there. This type of companies are also more likely to have a built-in raises and promotions, rewarding you for your consistent hard work with actual, tangible benefits.
A large corporation is also always going to have more resources – both in terms of funds and in terms of manpower. Working with a company with a great number of human resources both gives the opportunity to work with many different people, and to learn from them. Also, the company is more likely to provide you with benefits – whether it is a higher starting salary, a more comprehensive health care coverage, or anything else you might want from an employer – you will get that from a large corporation in way you will rarely find with a small company.
An often overlooked benefit of working for a large corporation is the diversity it offers you in terms of career possibilities. As already mentioned, you are more likely to have opportunities to grow along a career path, but at large corporations you also have the chance to pursue new career paths. In a large business, they will have many different departments responsible for many different aspects of the business. If you are thinking about a career change, you might be able to do it within your own company, which would certainly give you an advantage in the hiring process, and ease the transition for you and your family into a new career. Say you have worked in finance for years, but suddenly feel drawn to marketing and communications? If you are working at a large corporation, chances are there is a marketing department in house, making it much easier for you to switch than if you were to start from scratch.
