Rod Daily, who works primarily in gay porn and who was the boyfriend of Bay until recently, announced he too was HIV positive.
There have allegedly been two other adult industry stars who claim to have tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, though their identity has yet to be revealed. According to PASS, Performer Availability Screening Services, a group that works closely with the adult industry especially where HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are concerned, the rumors of a third and possibly fourth performer with HIV are just propaganda from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation who has long advocated for legislation to force adult film companies to require condom use.
Some reports have as many as 12 adult performers under "quarantine" because they may have been exposed to HIV from their work with Bay and/or Daily. There was an HIV scare in 2011 that halted production of adult films for a short time but rumors of an outbreak proved to be untrue.
Adult film production companies have long resisted using condoms because they are unappealing to the adult film consumer and one insider said "they are just a pain to have to fight with, put on, take off, they can kill the momentum of a scene."
California is a hotbed for adult production companies due to their liberal idealism on porn whereas other states still consider filming porn a form of prostitution. Some companies have moved out of California into states like Nevada and Florida where production is technically illegal but filming remains underground.
