“Deep Throat” porn star Harry Reems, born Herbert Strecher, died in Salt Lake City, Utah after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The former porn actor was diagnosed last summer and had undergone months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Reems was admitted to the hospital earlier in March for jaundice and died just four days after slipping into a coma, Reuters reported on March 21. Harry Reems was 65.
Harry Reems, who starred in the 1972 iconic adult film “Deep Throat” opposite Linda Lovelace, went on to star in more than 100 hard-core pornographic movies, including “Back Door Bride,” “Forced Entry,” and “Those Young Girls.” In 1976 Reems was convicted on charges that he conspired to transport obscenity across state lines. His "Deep Throat" co-star Linda Lovelace testified against him at his trial. The conviction was overturned one year later.
Reems spent many years as an alcoholic, and a homeless Harry Reems was often panhandling on Sunset Boulevard in order to survive. In 1989 Harry Reems got sober and began to “reinvent his life,” finding religion, real estate and his future wife, Jeannie. Reems then started a successful second career as a real estate broker.
Close friend Don Schenk said:
“I met Harry some 20 years ago, long after he had left the adult film industry. Over the years my wife and I have become close friends with Harry and his wife [Jennie], and began to spend time on the phone with them several times a month, ski with them every winger, and go visit them during the summer.”
Herbert Streicher, who will forever be known in the adult film industry as Harry Reems, is survived by his wife Jeannie Streicher. The Harry and Jeannie had no children together.
