Adrien Broner certainly won’t beat Marcos Maidana ‘to death’

Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana spoke during Thursday’s final press conference before this weekend’s bout in San Antonio, Texas.

Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) will defend the WBA welterweight crown versus Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) on Saturday evening at the Alamodome.

Currently ranked as the world’s eighth premier pound-for-pounder, Broner last vacated the squared circle in June as a split decision victor over Paulie Malignaggi.

Also a former junior lightweight and lightweight titlist, the arrogant, flamboyant and simply unlikable Broner eagerly added 12 pounds to meet Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KOs).

Malignaggi’s a brilliant defensive pugilist who is capable of causing any opponent to struggle.

Still, an inferior Malignaggi made “The Problem” look mediocre.

“If he makes a mistake, and I have a chance to get him out of there, I’m going to get him out of there,” said Broner, 24, a native Cincinnatian who is hyped by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. “If I just beat him to death, then I beat him to death.”

Conversely, a past junior welterweight titleholder, Maidana most recently exited the ring on June 8 with a sixth round TKO triumph over Josésito López.

A beloved Argentinean, Maidana is a bruiser whose punches land with thuds.

“I’m ready for this fight,” Maidana, 30, told Fight News. “I’ve trained hard and I’m certain I have what it takes to come out victorious on Saturday.”

The match will essentially pit Broner’s blinding speed and vast overall skills against Maidana’s intimidating style and power.

Although Broner won’t “beat him to death,” it’s difficult to envision that Maidana will emerge “victorious on Saturday.”

Ultimately, in a fascinating and dramatic tussle, expect Adrien Broner to narrowly outscore Marcos Maidana in the “River City” approximately 48 hours from now.
