Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was excused from team practice on Thursday due to personal reasons as he dealt with what was called a "family matter." TMZ reported on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, that Peterson's two-year-old son is actually in critical condition after reportedly being severely beaten by the man that is dating the child's mother.
Numerous sources with direct connections and knowledge to the situation state that the injured child is indeed the son of Adrian Peterson. It is not Adrian Peterson Jr., though.
Police report that 27-year-old Joseph Patterson has been charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant for the alleged beating of the child.
Near 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, authorities and emergency responders reported to the apartment where Adrian Peterson's son was living. It was then that they found the child and he was totally unresponsive.
After finding him, the child was taken to a hospital nearby. Doctors and other medical experts determined that the injuries were consistent with abuse and the severe head injuries have put the young boy in listed critical condition.
