Adrian Peterson explains why he decided to play football today just two days after his 2-year-old son died. On Oct. 13, Yahoo! reported that Peterson has released a statement by way of a text message explaining his decision to play in today's home game against the Panthers.
"My brother passed the night before the combine and I decided to go through with it. The same reason why I will play this week. You may ask why? God wants good to come from it ... We mourn and grieve but heaven had the baddest welcoming party for my son. That knowledge gives me peace. I'm still hurt and feel the pain of life, but I'm able to function because of the peace and joy of knowing my loved ones are in a much better place (sic)," Peterson said.
Adrian Peterson explains that he feels able to play because he is at peace. A lot of people were very surprised to hear that Peterson would be playing in today's game but he feels good about it and even announced that he would play when his son was in the hospital (before he passed away). Many believe that Peterson's decision to play today was more simple... surrounding the rumors that he didn't have a relationship with his son and that he just met the baby for the first time in the hospital this past week.
As previously reported, Peterson was just told (within the past 3 or 4 months) that the baby was his. The child's mother thought that the baby's father was someone else but a paternity test negated that claim. So she called Peterson and told him the news... but he doesn't know if that child was really his.
Adrian Peterson explains that he's okay to play despite the tragedy involving that little boy. Are you surprised he's playing? Do you think his lack of relationship with the baby makes it a bit easier for him to keep his head up during this difficult time?
