Adrian Peterson has been excused from the Minnesota Vikings because of a family tragedy. Peterson's 2-year-old son was allegedly beaten by his mother's boyfriend and is in critical condition in a South Dakota hospital. On Oct. 11, TMZ reported that the baby is on life support and has not had any brain activity in over 12 hours.
The baby's injuries were "consistent with abuse" according to medical experts. Law enforcement said that the infant had "suffered severe head injuries." The baby is not doing well and not improving. The family is going to have to make some very serious decision soon.
Adrian Peterson is with his son at the hospital. The baby's mother wants to take her child off of life support and donate his organs. It is unknown if Peterson has any say in this decision as it is unknown if he has custody of this child. Exactly what happened to the baby is unclear but an arrest in connection with his injuries has been made.
"Officials tell us they've arrested the suspect, 27-year-old Joseph Patterson ... who's been charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant," TMZ reported. This whole situation is absolutely heartbreaking and many thoughts and prayers have been sent to Peterson and his family.
Adrian Peterson likely won't be playing in Sunday's home game against the Panthers.
Updates to follow.
