As most of you are huddled together keeping warm by the fire, watching holiday specials on television and preparing your homes for Santa, there are a lot of animals in the shelters behind bars on cold concrete floors, some awaiting their death.
Most people don't understand that they can open their homes to these animals for just the holiday season as foster homes. They can hold them in their homes to give them the Christmas present of a family, and possibly help them find a new home.
If you are looking to adopt a pet this holiday season, also keep in mind it is a nine to thirteen year agreement. Not all pets live to be the same age, some breeds outlive other breeds and some animals outlive other animals. If you are looking to adopt a cat or dog this season, also look into what breeds your local shelters have and do research on those breeds so you can find one that best suits your family and lifestyle.
