One of the greatest measures of success as an animal rescuer is to find out that an animal that you helped save is happy and thriving in its forever home. It reminds us why we do what we do every day in our efforts of saving the lives of our innocent four-legged fur babies.
This week’s metro Atlanta adoption success story is Shadow from Good Mews Animal Foundation in Marietta. Here is Shadow’s version of “happily ever after” written by his new mom Jan:
I adopted Shadow on Friday, November 29 (Black Furday!), about seven weeks after my beloved 15 year old Sasha passed away. Shadow is my second adoption from Good Mews, as I adopted Sasha in May of 1999. I was so lonely after Sasha’s passing; I missed him terribly. I was told that one of the best ways to honor a cat’s memory is to provide a loving home for another cat in need. So I came to Good Mews and found Shadow!
He has the sweetest personality - he is very affectionate and can’t get enough patting and tummy rubbing. I never had a cat before who loved so to have his tummy rubbed! And he loves to eat! When it’s time for breakfast or dinner, he lets me know with this wonderful, long drawn out meow; he sounds like an opera singer. He also loves treats: I never before had a cat who would even look interested in them.
I found out Shadow is mad about catnip when I received his Cat Scratch Lounge from Amazon. It came with a bag of catnip, and had some embedded in the floor of the Scratch Lounge. He couldn’t wait for me to get it completely out of the box before he was rolling around on it in ecstasy! He doesn’t care for vertical scratching posts, but really likes ones that are flat on the floor. He’s not a lap kitty (so far), but likes to sit next to me on the sofa, and sleeps all night on my bed.
He has made himself completely at home, with lots of windows to look out of, birds and squirrels to watch, and lots of opportunities for jumping practice!
I can’t imagine being without Shadow. He has brought joy back into my life. Thank you, Good Mews, for all your wonderful work in helping kitties find good homes.
