One of the greatest measures of success as an animal rescuer is to find out that an animal that you helped save is happy and thriving in its forever home. It reminds us why we do what we do every day in our efforts of saving the lives of our innocent four-legged fur babies.
This week’s metro Atlanta adoption success story is Fisher (now Finn) from Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption (APRA). Here is a “happily ever after” message from Finn’s new family:
“A week before the Christmas holidays, my sister came to Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption to look at another dog for us. When she arrived, that dog was being adopted by another family. She decided to go ahead and look at the other dogs while she was there.
Our lives were forever changed after she walked through that door. She saw little six pound Finn sitting on a dog bed wearing a sweater. The sweater won us over! She wanted to be introduced to him, and he seemed scared the whole time and kept his tail tucked.
We knew we could give him the love he desperately needed, but we needed time to think about it and see if he would be a good match with our other dog. He was all we could think about for the next two days. So, we returned to see Finn and take him home. He was very skinny, with protruding hip bones and spine, due to his time as a stray at Dekalb Animal Control. However, his personality quickly changed and he settled into his new life with ease.
Finn’s new life was like a whirlwind. Within a two week span, Finn went from DeKalb Animal Control to Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption to our home. To end the crazy two weeks of Finn’s new life, he boarded a plane to spend Christmas in Washington DC.
Finn has changed night and day from the dog we met at Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption. He adores his big sister, Heidi, and follows her around. Anything she does, he mimics.
We are so thankful for Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption for saving our little boy and letting us show him what it is like to be loved. He makes us laugh on a daily basis and we have many more adventures and trips lined up for him. Thank you Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption for taking him in and helping him find his way to our home.”
