Adopted puppy is killed by school teacher

Derek Fierro, 25, a Chicago Public School teacher, and who resides in the 500 block of Roscoe Street was arrested for aggravated cruelty to an animal. Fierro on October 2011, adopted a Labrador/Chow mix from the Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation. At about 3:30 am he called the police and led them to the trunk of his car and showed the police his dead dog. Fierro in tears allegedly told the police that the dog “ate every piece of paper, soiled itself, and refused to get in the bathtub. Fierro then alleges that he punched the puppy several times, killing it. He is charged with a felony and since he is also employed by CPS, the school’s Inspector’s Office will also be conducting an investigation.
