Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat-Month is upon us as of June 1st. So many cats and kittens need purrfect homes and deserve to be featured.
Partnering with Elk Grove based Almost Home Foundation, (http://www.almosthomefoundation.org) this month will be filled with daily features of cats and kittens.
Day#1
Sophia and Tammy are looking for a forever home. These two adorable females are located at Almost Home Foundation, within a foster home.
Sophia and Tammy have been in the care of Almost Home Foundation twice. The first time as two adorable kittens were taken in by AHF. Later, they were returned.

“It's only fitting that we begin with two girls that happen to our newest fosters, Sophia and Tammy. These cuties are actually staying with us for a second time! The first time, they were not at all like they are now; they were mere babies, tiny little fur balls not even a couple of months old. They were part of a litter of 7, and it was a litter we absolutely adored. The personalities of these kittens were just amazing.
The babies had been rescued by an animal control officer in a southern part of our state. Our rescue had received a plea from the ACO. As is typical in many areas, her options for the kittens were slim. Shelters nearby were all high-kill, and she couldn't bear to doom these little babies to such a fate. They were typical kittens rescued from outdoors - sick with the usual upper respiratory infections, fleas, earmites, etc. She had taken them to her home, nursed them, and prayed she could find a rescue to help. And ours did answer her plea.
Sophia and Tammy were adopted in December of 2007 by a woman with two children who were thrilled to take them home. They were gone from our home, but never forgotten. Recently, we learned the woman had contacted our rescue, seeking to return them. This may sound bad, but it was not. Our rescue has a policy, as part of the contract with adopters, that if for any reason an adopter decides they can no longer keep the pets, the animals are returned to us. This is a way we can ensure that once a dog or cat has been in our care, their futures are always secure and safe.
The woman who spent the last few years loving and caring for the girls experienced what so many of us have in the last couple of years - forced to move where the cats were not allowed. I cannot imagine the heartache she felt, having to say goodbye to her precious girls. My own heart goes out to her. So when I heard the girls were coming back, there was no question they would come back to my home. And when they did, they came with what must have been their favorite toys, as well as their paperwork and well-worn Turbo. They looked extremely healthy and well cared for.
Sophia is a beautiful black and white domestic, with an air of sophistication about her. Tammy is a gentle fluffy Maine Coon blend. Both girls are small in size, very healthy, adore getting attention, and are very sweet natured. Normally, one would assume they would need to be adopted together; but each one craves your attention so much, they would be perfectly fine going separately, even as "only" pets. It's the attention that is the prerequisite! If you have the time to spend with a girl (or girls) who would love nothing more than to be your best friend and lounge by you, sleep with you, play with you - then these girls are a must to meet!”
