Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month

When asked to picture an animal rescue, what types of animals do you think of? Cats? Dogs? What about guinea pigs?

Yes, there are guinea pigs in shelters throughout the country waiting for new homes. In honor of these tiny, often misunderstood pets, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals declared March to be "Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month'. Started in 2002, the month long dedication serves to raise awareness about the millions of homeless guinea pigs waiting for new forever homes, as well as for guinea pigs in general. Guinea pigs are not the low maintenance, disposable pets that many think them to be. They can make amazing pets for the right people, but it's always important to do your research before adopting any new pet.
