“Cats are like potato chips -- you can never have just one.” Perhaps you’ve seen this message emblazoned on a T-shirt or bumper sticker, and many happy cat owners will tell you it’s true. During the month of July, the Montgomery County Humane Society is making it easier for area adopters to creat multiple-cat households with their Purrfect Pairs adoption special. This month, you can adopt two shelter or foster cats over 6 months old and the adoption fees for the second cat will be waived. Adopters will still pay for licensing and microchipping for both cats.

Portugal (ID# A341186) is also looking for her forever home.

Cats who live together and become pals will play together, keep each other company while their people are at work, groom one another, and often curl up to sleep together. MCHS has no shortage of adoptable cats to choose from, like the very handsome Van Buren (above), a neutered male domestic mediumhair who is about 5 years old, or the lovely Portugal (at right), a female domestic shorthair who is also about 5 years old. There are additional discounts available for adopters who choose a “Golden Oldie” kitty aged 7 years or older.

Meet a few of the adoptable shelter cats in the slide show below, and visit the MCHS website to see more. To meet the cats in person, visit the shelter at 14645 Rothgeb Drive in Rockville. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays but is open other weekdays from noon to 7 p.m. and on weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Call 240-773-5960 for more information. If you’re calling about a specific cat, be sure to have the cat’s name and ID number ready.
