PetSmart Charities will host its annual springtime National Adoption Weekend next weekend. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2nd and last through 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4th. Hours for Friday and Saturday are 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. while Sunday’s hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Wheaton’s PetSmart is located at 63 Rice Lake Square. The animals will be located inside, out front and on the lawn between buildings. They will ready and raring to meet their future families while hoping and praying for their forever home.

Have you ever wondered what such an even must be like for a potential adoptee? Well, PetSmart Charities workers placed a collar camera on various homeless dogs and cats in order to gain some insight into this matter. Here is the composition of what they gathered in a shelter from the pets wearing the cams as they waited to see if they would be adopted: video.

If you have never adopted before, be assured that the animals in shelters and rescues are not like second-hand goods. In fact, many of the animals are pure-bred and have had to be given up for one reason or another; some good reasons, some not so good. But all of the animals, purebred or not have one thing in common….unconditional love aplenty to give!

It is easy to adopt. First of all, if you now of a participating shelter or rescue organization that will be participating in PetSmart Charities’ National Event, logon to their website and get the ball rolling. You can fill out the adoption paperwork before the adoption event even begins. There are typically even phone numbers or email addresses where you can submit questions to the various organizations.

Once you have that accomplished, you can initially shop online. Many organizations will adopt the animals on a first-come, first-serve basis because they do not want to hold the animals for any one person just in case that person changes their mind and the animal misses out on the opportunity to get their forever home.

When the day arrives, if you do have a particular animal in mind, make certain to arrive early. Do not be surprised if there is already a line out the door as these events are quite popular! Be patient as you will be helped as quickly and efficiently as possible.

You will then meet with the people in charge of the adoption process, go over your paperwork, pay the adoption fee if you have located your perfect pet, and then sign and go. PetSmart personnel will also be on hand helping you to shop for your new family member as they will need a few things to get started. Things like food, treats, bowls, toys, a bed or crate (or both), a collar and leash are all essential for a good start with your new four-legged companion.

If you are unsure, stop in anyway or you can choose to follow PetSmart Charities and PetSmart on Facebook throughout the National Adoption Weekend at www.facebook.com/PetSmartCharities and www.facebook.com/PetSmart.
