Adobe MAX 2011: HTML5 and responsive web design

At the 2011 Adobe MAX conference, held in Downtown Los Angeles, Adobe discussed the pivotal role of HTML5 for delivering immersive web experiences that are easily accessible across an array of devices and platforms.

Now, just this week, the Adobe featured blog announced new news regarding Adobe's increased focus on HTML5 for mobile devices. Adobe, discontinuing further development of Flash Player for mobile devices (with the final version being the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and Blackberry PlayBook), stated that "…HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms."

Relatedly, many of the Adobe MAX conference sessions had already provided insights regarding the development of interactive user experiences through HTML5 and also exploring the new adaptability of web design.

As part of his recent especially enlightening session, "The Zen of Mobile Web Design," Dreamweaver Senior Project Manager Scott Fegette discussed responsive web design. Scott described responsive web design as a new philosophy for creating web designs that are fluid, flexible, and adaptable to the device in use. View his informative session.

Furthermore, in Greg Rewis' educational session "From Web to Mobile App," he emphasized that all web experiences no longer need to appear the same across all browsers and devices. He described CSS3 Media Queries as a key component in creating responsive web layouts that adapt to the user's specific device. View his excellent session.

On Monday, November 14th, Greg Rewis will also be one of the featured presenters at the exciting LA Area Adobe User Groups and Open Source event "The New Web HTML5." The event will be held at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood from 7:00pm to 10:30pm. Other featured speakers include the dynamic Stephanie Sullivan (who is also Greg's wife), Elliott Sprehn, and Neville Spiteri.
