Administrative Professionals Day History
The President of the National Secretaries Association Mary Barrett, Dictaphone Corporation President C. King Woodbridge and Young & Rubicam Executive Harry F. Klemfuss, came up with the idea in an effort to encourage and inspire more women to become secretaries or administrative professionals due to a national shortage of office professionals. The first National Secretaries Day was held in June 1952. In 2000, the name was changed and the date was moved to the last week of April.
Administrative Professionals Day Today
Today, the event is celebrated world-wide and is one of the largest workplace observances besides holidays and birthdays. According to the non-profit International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), there are more than 4 million administrative assistants and secretaries working in the United States today. 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of this special day.
ach year, there is a different theme for Administrative Professionals Day. The theme for 2012 is "Admins, the Pulse of the Office." The theme for 2011 was This Year, Celebrate All Office Professionals because receptionists, administrative assistants, office professionals and secretaries, are integral members of a business or organization.
Administrative Professionals Day provides a perfect opportunity to say “thank you” to that busy gal or guy in the office who keeps things running smoothly.
