Adidas goes Green with Bluesign

Sustainable fashion is becoming a big topic and many manufacturer and suppliers are stepping up using more environmentally safe products and processes for textile manufacture. Adidas just sign a partnership with Bluesign Technologies.

The goal of the partnership is to reduce the environmental impact of its production methods allowing Adidas suppliers the use of use Bluefinder.

The bluesign® system got its start in 2000 by inspection and certification group SGS, Bluesign Technologies provides solutions for a sustainable textile production it focuses on eliminating harmful substances at the start of the manufacturing process as well as sets and controls standards for an environmentally friendly and safe production. They also lists the most environmentally safe products and processes for textile manufacture.

Currently many brands have partnerships with the Bluesign system. Adidas has committed to the goal of 99 percent of its products containing no perfluorocarbons (PFCs) by December 31, 2017.

Currently 90 percent of the company’s products contain the chemical pollutant.
