Adena Springs, the Frank Stronach family’s Thoroughbred horse breeding operation, won the Eclipse Award for Breeder of the Year on January 17, 2011.
Additional nominees in the Eclipse Award’s Top Breeder category included Claiborne Farm/Adele Dilschneider and Brereton C. Jones. Eclipse Award voting totals in the Top Breeder category were as follows:
- 69 votes for Adena Springs
- 55 votes for Claiborne Farm/Adele Dilschneider
- 43 votes for Brereton C. Jones
With farm locations in Kentucky, Florida and Canada, Adena Springs is one of the most successful Thoroughbred horse breeders in North America.

Frank Stronach and Adena Springs have won Eclipse Awards several times, including Top Breeder(2000, 2004, 2005) and Top Owner (1998 – 2000). Adena Springs was also honored in 2005 with the Eclipse Award for Top Broodmare (Baby Zip).
The Eclipse Award winners were announced during the 40th Annual Eclipse Award ceremony in Miami Beach. The voting base included members of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters and the Daily Racing Form.
What are the Eclipse Awards?
The Eclipse Awards, originally named for Eclipse (a famous 18th century racehorse), are sponsored by three organizations: the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers Association. Members of all three organizations voted for the top title.
