The executive producer of the 70th Annual Golden Globes confirmed today, Jan. 10, that Adele will be making her first public appearance since the birth of her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki last October, The Associated Press reports.
The 24-year-old singer-songwriter won’t simply be attending the awards ceremony; she’s been nominated for Best Original Song. Adele’s self-penned theme to “Skyfall” is up against Taylor Swift's "Safe & Sound" from The Hunger Games, Jon Bon Jovi's "Not Running Anymore" from Stand Up Guys, Keith Urban's "For You" from Act of Valor and "Suddenly" from Les Misérables.
Since announcing her pregnancy in June 2012, Adele has rarely been seen out in public, and hasn't even officially confirmed the birth of her child. Her spokesperson said at the time, “We are not releasing a statement at this time. No comment.” This, of course led to a lot of ridiculous speculation about the mega-hitmaker.
But Adele made things rather clear when she posted on her official blog, “Im delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx.” Adele also just expressed her elation over the Best Original Song nomination with a post on Twitter: “Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!! Thank you x.”
