Adele’s “21” has done it again! For the second straight year, the British singer, Adele, has had the top album sales in the United States, according to a report by CNN Money today, Jan. 4, 2013. Adele’s “21” racked up 4.41 million in sales in 2012, beating Taylor Swift’s “Red” which sold 3.11 copies. Adele had previously enjoyed sales of 5.82 million in 2011 on her “21” album.
Evidently, Americans love that British accent since the year's best-selling albums in the United States were all British musicians with the exception of the 2nd place American, Taylor Swift. MSN reports that One Direction’s “Up All Night,” released in 2011, was third, selling 1.62 copies. Fourth place was held by Mumford & Sons, a folk revivalist type group, with their album “Babel,” selling 1.46 copies. Fifth place saw One Direction, a British boy band, returning with their 2012 hit, “Take Me Home,” selling 1.34 million copies.
