For many, especially those fortunate enough to live in Northern California, there is almost no better way to greet the upcoming Autumn than with food. Toss in a little beer, some face painting and games for the kiddies and absolutely flawless weather, and you have the recipe for a very nice afternoon. That was the scene yesterday in Yountville at Thomas Keller’s super casual Addendum.

Addendum is a seasonal restaurant that operates in the backyard of another one of Keller’s Yountville restaurants, Ad Hoc. For just three days per week and eight months of the year, Addendum turns out classics like buttermilk fried chicken, baby back ribs, and pulled pork, all to go, and wildly popular with visitors and locals, alike. Yesterday, as a way to greet the Fall and say “see you later” for the winter months, Addendum threw a little party. This low-key event, centered around the picnic tables and raised planters in the yard that is Addendum, blended a German-style Oktoberfest, with some good old fashioned American comfort food for an afternoon of tasty vittles, classic accordion tunes, cold beer and a few hours enjoying perfect NorCal weather.

In addition to the fried chicken, Addendum offered bbq ribs, roasted suckling pig, giant bratwurst, popcorn, candy apples and cotton candy. Of this menu, I can honestly say that the fried chicken and cold golden Pilsner was the winning combination, but others at the big communal table where I sat were oohing and ahhing about the brats and ribs, so it’s pretty likely it was all very tasty.

Addendum, located at 6476 Washington Street in Yountville California will be back in the Spring with more casual eats for all to enjoy. You can check them out here and on their Facebook page.
