Now you can enjoy a glass of “Fifty Shades of Grey” in addition to vicariously reading the page turner.

Wine plays an important role in Fifty Shades of Grey, adding to the sensuality that pervades a number of scenes,” said author E.L. James. “I’ve always had a penchant for good wine, so combining two of my passions to blend Red Satin and White Silk ($17.99 each) was a natural extension of the series.”

The Northern California Wine Panel had fun this week seriously tasting and writing some hot fiction.

“I can picture Christian wearing Armani jeans, custom-made cotton shirt and crocodile loafers with matching belt,” a male panelist said. “He carries a chilled bottle of White Satin in a silver wine bucket to the afternoon picnic with Anastasia.

“I sense the wine is a blend of primarily gewürztraminer and sauvignon blanc with an enticing floral bouquet. Christian swirls the light straw wine in his glass and offers another to her.”

The panel member said he was impressed with the exotic flavors of crisp grapefruit, lush pear and a hint of butterscotch.

“The perfect, sexy menu for this selection would be chilled melon, tomato and mozzarella salad, Beluga caviar and spicy octopus,” he said.

Red Satin –a heady blend of mostly petite sirah and syrah – offered more opportunity for tasting and poetic license.

“Later that afternoon, the pair returns to his suite and Christian rings for his butler to open a brooding bottle of Red Satin,” a female panelist said with a low growl. “She closes her eyes as the ripe, fruity aromas fill her senses as she yearns for the first sip. An avalanche of black cherry, cocoa powder and creamy caramel explodes on her palate and she knows she must have more as day fades into evening.”

Each bottle carries the tag line, “You are mine.”
