Adaptive equipment expo at Denver's Craig Hospital offers recreational technology and more

Craig Hospital hosts its 10th annual Adaptive Equipment Expo on Friday, May 7, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This annual event is open to the public free of charge and features over fifty major rehabilitation equipment manufacturers and providers of service. Over 400 people visited the expo last year, including Craig Hospital patients and their families.

Among the many exhibitors are those who specialize in mobility solutions including Permobil, Inc. and Invacare, manufacturers of customized power and manual wheelchairs.

This year the Expo introduces manufacturers and service providers focused on recreational and assistive technology options. Spokes ‘n Motion is a leader in adaptive sports equipment for an array of sports from alpine and water skiing to land sailing and ice sledge hockey, made even more famous this year at the Vancouver Paralympics where Team USA took the gold medal. SideStix Ventures presents its SideStix crutches, positioned as the first shock-absorbent sports crutch with attachable “feet” for a variety of terrains, designed by Sarah Doherty, OT, and partner Kerith Perreur-Lloyd, Structural Therapist.

Local metro Denver companies, Adaptive AutoMobility and Freewheel Mobility are specialists in van conversions and other vehicle adaptations for people with disabilities, including installation of lifts and ramping systems. Wheelchair Getaways of Colorado offer daily, weekly, monthly and long-term accessible van rentals.

Other metro Denver businesses with products for people with disabilities, Sunrise Medical and YouCan TooCan will also have representatives and products on site.

Participants have the opportunity to see some of the newest mobility products on the market, try out selected adaptive equipment and devices, learn about seating and positioning, and speak to professionals about adapting the home with environmental access technology.
