Members of ADAPT got an early start this morning. The media team met at 8:30. New people gathered at 9:00 am. The first whole group workshop was at 11. Members talked about conducting local Defending our Freedom Campaigns. People spoke about campaigns that were conducted in Philadelphia, PA and Rochester, NY. Actions included street theater, tent cities, and overtaking of government offices.
After lunch ADAPT marched to Freedom Plaza, where funeral music played and members wore black as per instructions. People from across the country held flags of the various states who were struggling to maintain their community based services. People talked about what was going on their states. Adam, a dad with two young kids from Chicago, talked about his fear of returning to a nursing home where he spent 3 months eight years ago. He said, “I’d rather go to jail than go back. I’m juststarting to put mt family back together. My youngest son was six months old [when I went in}. My oldest son was 2. They had to come visit me once a week like I was a criminal.” His reevaluation for services is due when he gets back.
After that, ADAPTers marched back to Holiday Inn Capitol, where they got tomorrows marching orders. Activists are to be downstairs at 9:00 AM tomorrow for another day of marching and advocating.
