Adam Silver has dropped the NBA hammer of justice on the Clipper owner Donald Sterling, and it wasn't pretty! Well it wasn't pretty for Sterling, but it was for everyone else in the league. According to a SB Nation report on April 29, the new NBA commissioner showed that he isn't going to tolerate actions like this from anyone in the league, not even owners.
Silver was straight up and very blunt with the media when he made the announcement that the Los Angeles Clippers owner would be banned for life. Sterling was also fining $2.5 million for his actions. So where does this leave the Clippers now? Well the rumor mill is boiling over about potential buyers, and one of the rumors includes the greatest Laker of all-time.
According to an SI report on April 29, Magic Johnson would have interest in purchasing the LA Clippers. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reported that Magic Johnson and his ownership group are interested in buying the team if Sterling is forced to sell the team. Sterling has owned the team for over three decades but after today's press conference it looks like things will be changing soon.
Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. “Magic’s absolutely interested,” one source closely connected to Johnson’s business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night.
Magic Johnson already has part ownership of the LA Dodgers, so why not the Clippers too? One thing is for sure, Clippers coach Doc Rivers has to be thrilled about this move. After his team looked like they were sleep walking through Game 4 of their best-of-seven series vs. the Golden State Warriors Sunday now the team get can back to concentrating on winning basketball games and making a run at the NBA Championship.
The Clippers will play their first game at home tonight at the Staples Center since Sterling's comments were made public. What do you think NBA fans? Will Sterling be forced to sell the team? If so, will Magic Johnson be the new owner?
