Mark your calendars for April 1. Yes, that day is popularly known as April Fools’ Day, but, this year, it’s also the day when the Razzies will award the worst in 2011 cinema.
The nominations for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards were announced today, February 25, and leading the pack is Adam Sandler, who had three critically panned films last year. Sandler racked up 11 individual nominations, breaking the original record of five set by Eddie Murphy in 2007.
Sandler’s cross-dressing comedy, “Jack & Jill,” leads the Worst Picture nominations with 12, including Worst Actor for Sandler (for playing Jack) and Worst Actress for Sandler (for playing Jill). Katie Holmes received a nod for Worst Supporting Actress as Jack’s wife. Al Pacino, who played himself in the movie, nabbed a Worst Supporting Actor nomination.
Other films in the Worst Picture field are “Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star” (which Sandler’s Happy Madison studio produced), “New Year’s Eve,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” This marks the first year in Razzie history that all five Worst Picture nominees are competing for the categories of Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Cast Ensemble.
