When is the first time Adam talks to God? There is no conversation when he is first imaged (Gen 1: 27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.), and then later when a soul is breathed into he-she still there is nothing. It is only after Eve is pulled from Adam and then the first conversation is not with God but between Eve and the serpent. Now it is true that all along God in the symbol Elohim spoke to Adam but there is no talk back.
Why is this so? Part of the key to understanding this is the appearance of YHV”H ELYHY”M in this verse, Gen 2:4 ‘These are the generations of the heaven and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.’
Kabbalah speaks of four worlds, Atzilus the world of emanation being the highest, Briah the world of creation, Yetzirah-formation and Assiah - the world of manifest being. When YHV”H ELYHY”M enters the scene in Torah we go from the world of emanation to the world of creation or Briah. In the world of Creation an actor is required to shape the world according to that divine emanation. That actor is Adam who is imaged shortly after YHV”H ELYHY”M starts calling the shots.
When Adam is formed from the dust we enter the world Yetzirah or formation. At this point Adam is still male female as he was created. The conversation does not occur between YHV”H ELYHY”M and Adam until here…Gen 3:10 And he said: 'I heard Thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.'
One more thing before we tie this together. When the serpent and Eve talk about God they are speaking of ELYH”M’ and not YHV”H ELYHY”M. This is an important distinction. ELYHY”M is a process that brings the world its continuous emanation. The appearance of YHV”H ELYHY”M is a reflecting influence that seems to be associated with Adam in a unique fashion that of the conversation after the fall.
The conversation that YHV”H ELYHY”M has with Adam is about separation since prior to this no conversation is necessary. It is implied that Adam was of one mind with YHV”H ELYHY”M since he is a direct reflection of the divine. What is going on here?
In order to delve deeper we must look within our own consciousness. Think about the internal dialogue you have. Who are you speaking to and what is speaking through you. Are you separated from the innate holiness by following the process that means you react to whatever happens to you as in the serpent’s suggestions or are you trying to reach on high to enter into the flow of holiness?
Adam is not separate from God. His conversation with God is Eternal. He does not have to hide. Our conversations with God take on the aspect of holiness when we listen for and promote the highest thoughts within and then run with it like there is no tomorrow.
