Travel Channel host Adam Richman showed off his 70-pound weight loss on a low-carb diet for the July issue of Cosmopolitan UK.

Richman posed nude for the cover, and said he was flattered to be a centerfold. "To go from hating the way I looked to being a Cosmo centerfold is a profound honor," said Adam, 40. "If you're a guy who's always been the fun-to-be-around teddy bear, then all of a sudden people are viewing you as sexy. It's nice."

Richman dons only a pair of red, white, and blue knee socks with soccer cleats. Adam's nude cover actually served a purpose: It was done to raise awareness of male cancer for Cancer Research UK.

Low-Carb Diet That Eliminated White Flour and Starches

Adam, who used to do food challenges as the star of Man v. Food, no longer overeats for a living, and loves the changes he has experienced in both his appearance and his health. Being suddenly buff has also boosted his confidence.

If you're a guy who's always been the fun-to-be-around teddy bear, then all of a sudden people are viewing you as sexy, it's nice. It's great not having to be the plucky best friend, or the comic relief anymore. I love that. Who wouldn't rather hear, 'Wow, you look great,' than 'Ewww.'?"

The 6-foot-tall Richman shed 70 pounds in 10 months by following a low-carb diet that eliminated white flour and starches. He worked with his doctor and a nutritionist to slim down the healthy way.

"I realized that I didn't need nearly as many calories as I'd grown accustomed to," Adam told Men's Health. "I ate 100 to 200 calories every two hours or so, consumed healthy proteins (yogurt, lean meat, turkey jerky), and drank a gallon of water a day. And as my weight dropped, my energy soared."

Running and Soccer Workouts

For exercise, Adam did cardio exercise and strength-training workouts and played his favorite sport: soccer. He said soccer made exercise a lot more fun.

To combat the monotony of gym workouts, I started playing soccer. I looked at workouts as training sessions. My soccer training includes squats, pushups, resistance-band work, and sprints. Ninety minutes of running became part of my love of the game rather than a chore."

While he looks better than ever, Richman insists he lost weight for his health. Still, he's not complaining about being chiseled instead of chubby.

"I went from an XXL to an L in 10 months," he said. "Now I wear slim-cut suits. People no longer call me a teddy bear. Do I miss the food? Sure, but not as much as I enjoy the benefits of being at a healthy weight."
