After giving the Alamo City fight fans an evening to remember at “Battle at the Ballpark” on Saturday, August 30, by brutally stopping the customarily durable Leonardo Torres of Mexico in the fifth stanza of their scheduled six round co-main event, Super Bantamweight Adam “Mantequilla” Lopez (9-0, 4 KOs) is getting prepared to enjoy his second passion in the world of sports.

The 23 year old prizefighter admits that he loves watching the NFL, and more specifically supports the Dallas Cowboys unconditionally.

“If you had to compare ‘America’s Team’ to any prizefighter, you would have to say that our Cowboys are the ‘Arturo Gatti’ of the NFL,” professes the San Antonio based fighter. “Win or lose, it’s must see TV. They are without a doubt the most exciting franchise in the league. Love them or hate them, you just can’t be impartial when it comes to ‘Big D’.”

“Although I admit to having a genuine affinity for my Cowboys, I do love watching the entire NFL and thoroughly enjoy analyzing every team while participating in Fantasy leagues every year.”

To give football fans an idea of what to expect during “week one” of the NFL 2014 regular season, the hard punching Alamo City fighter has secured his selections with explanations to support his choices.

Thu, Sept. 4 - Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks - NBC at 8:30 p.m. Eastern

“Although Aaron Rodgers is going to have some mild success against the stingiest defense in the league and the defending Super Bowl Champs, don’t expect him to score a lot of points at Century Link Field in Seattle, Washington. The last time he played this team, he was sacked eight times and didn’t throw a single touchdown. While I would usually recommend starting a QB like Rodgers on any fantasy squad, I wouldn’t do it for this week one match-up.”

“Just like in boxing, styles make fights…this is an ugly style match-up for any Packers fan. I like the Seahawks at home to start off their 2014 campaign.”

Adam’s Pick - Seattle Seahawks by 7 points over Green Bay Packers in defensive battle

Sun, Sept. 7 - New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons - FOX at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“A division rivalry is like a Heavyweight fight…anything can and often does happen on the field of play. When two teams genuinely hate each other like these two squads, records and talent really don’t mean as much, and it ultimately becomes very difficult to pick the winner. With a healthy Julio Jones, the Falcons are going to be explosive. But until Atlanta can prove that they can stop the combination of Dew Brees and Jimmy Graham, they will have a very difficult time containing this high-powered and potent New Orleans offense.”

Adam’s Pick - New Orleans Saints by double digits over Atlanta Falcons

Sun, Sept 7 - Minnesota Vikings at St. Louis Rams - FOX at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“Last season, Adrien Peterson’s first run from scrimmage was a 78 yard touchdown. Expect him to do more of the same against a squad he traditionally has great success against. Even though the Vikings are starting Matt Cassel over the talented Teddy Bridgewater, look for AP to have another eye opening performance against the St. Louis Rams in leading the Vikings to a big win on the road to begin their 2014 season.”

Adam’s Pick - Minnesota Vikings by double digits over the St. Louis Rams

Sun, Sept 7 - Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“I have to admit, I’m a huge supporter of Johnny Manziel, and I think Cleveland is making a big mistake starting Brian Hoyer over the former Aggie star. Big Ben Rothlisberger has Antonio Brown…who does Hoyer have now that his primary weapon has been sidelined due to testing positive for a banned substance? Unless they use a QB who can make things happen without big time playmakers on the field, Cleveland is going to be in serious trouble.”

“I like the Steelers at Heinz Field by at least by a field goal.”

Adam’s Pick - Pittsburgh Steelers by three over Cleveland Browns

Sun, Sept 7 - Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“LeSean McCoy is a game changer and a potential league MVP. Anyone who is lucky enough to have the leading rusher on their fantasy squad this week should start him against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although the Jags will be much improved on defense, it won’t be enough to contain to the best running back in the NFC.”

“Look for the Eagles to control the clock at home and put up big rushing yards against one of the worst teams in the league.”

Adam’s Pick - Philadelphia Eagles by double digits over the Jacksonville Jaguars

Sun, Sept 7 - Oakland Raiders at New York Jets - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“Although opening the NFL season on the road, against a decent defensive squad on the opposite side of the country, is always grueling, I have no confidence in Geno Smith under center for the New York Jets. I not only look for the Oakland Raiders to pull off the upset in the Big Apple, but I also expect to see a quarterback controversy after week one.”

“Look for rookie QB Derek Carr to do just enough to get the big win at Met Life Stadium in New York on week one.”

Adam’s Pick - Oakland Raiders by seven over New York Jets

Sun, Sept 7 - Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“This is going to be a very tough, physical game. Although it’s very difficult to win a division rivalry on the road, expect to see Andy Dalton silence his critics by pulling out a fourth quarter victory in a hard fought, defensive battle.”

Adam’s Pick - Cincinnati Bengals by seven over Baltimore Ravens

Sun, Sept 7 - Buffalo Bills at Chicago Bears - FOX at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“Look for the Bears to win big at Soldier Field. I’m not sold on E J Manuel, even against a questionable secondary. Look for Matt Forte to be the work horse in this game and put together some impressive all-purpose numbers. Think about starting one of the most reliable backs in the NFL this week on your fantasy team at home.”

Adam’s Pick - Chicago Bears by ten over Buffalo Bills

Sun, Sept 7 - Washington Redskins at Houston Texans - FOX at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“My prediction for this game is utter sadness. Both teams have a lot of problems offensively and are trying to implement new philosophies. Although RG III has struggled within the new system, he has the better staff around him. Look for the Skins to win on the road in a very awkward match-up that could show both teams struggle early and often.”

Adam’s Pick - Washington Redskins by seven points over Houston Texans

Sun, Sept 7 - Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“Although it pains me to admit this, Coach Andy Reid is one of the best disciplinarians in the league. He always gets the most out of his talent. Expect him to prove that last year was no fluke. Look for QB Alex Smith and RB Jamaal Charles to have a big day against a team that was number 20 in the league in rushing yards allowed.”

“Expect the Chiefs to win big at Arrowhead…one of the more difficult venues to win at on the road.”

Adam’s Pick - Kansas City Chiefs by double digits over Tennessee Titans

Sun, Sept 7 - New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins - CBS at 1:00 p.m. Eastern

“I know Ryan Tannehill is beginning to blossom as a pro quarterback and he will be playing at home, but Tom Brady is a future Hall of Famer who knows how to exploit the deficiencies of any team. Look for New England to take advantage of some of Miami’s offensive line issues, and Brady to pull another close one out in the fourth quarter.”

Adam’s Pick - New England Patriots by a last minute touchdown over Miami Dolphins

Sun, Sept 7 - Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - FOX at 4:25 p.m. Eastern

“I think we’re going to see the beginning of a very long season for Cam Newton this Sunday. The Panthers got rid of every major weapon in the off season, and Cam won’t be able to rely on his feet in this game. Look for Josh McCown to steal his thunder by exploiting some of the Panther deficiencies in their secondary.”

“Expect Tampa to win big at home.”

Adam’s Pick - Tampa Bay Buccaneers by seven over Carolina Panthers

Sun, Sept 7 - San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys - FOX at 4:25 p.m. Eastern

“For the Cowboys to be successful in this game, DeMarco Murray will have to carry the ball at least 20 times and rush for over one hundred yards. If they can’t dominate the time of possession with their defensive woes, it’s going to be very difficult to pull this one out at home. But I bleed blue, so I’m hopeful that Murray will have a career game against a less than stellar 49er defense.”

Adam’s Pick - Dallas Cowboys by three over San Francisco 49ers

Sun, Sept 7 - Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos - NBC at 8:30 p.m. Eastern

“This is like a great Welterweight Championship fight between two stars of the sport…Peyton Manning versus Andrew Luck. Although Peyton will be without Wes Welker and Eric Decker, look for Manning to light up the scoreboard early and often in this game, using Demaryius Thomas as his primary weapon. While Luck is one of the more proficient QB’s in the league, he’s going to have loads of trouble matching Peyton point for point without a quality offensive line in this game.”

“I like Denver big at home in their season opener.”

Adam’s Pick - Denver Broncos by double digits over Indianapolis Colts

Mon, Sept 8 - New York Giants at Detroit Lions - ESPN at 7:20 p.m. Eastern

“This could be a route at Ford Field. Anyone who has either Matthew Stafford or Calvin Johnson on their fantasy squad might want to think about starting them on week one. Eli and the Giants will have a lot of trouble scoring points against a very tough defensive front. Look for Detroit to capitalize on turnovers and light up the scoreboard in this one.”

“Also, look for RB Reggie Bush to be a factor in this game.”

Adam’s Pick - Detroit Lions by double digits over New York Giants

Mon, Sept 8 - San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals - ESPN at 10:20 p.m. Eastern

“This is an explosive match-up which could prove to be the game of the week. Both teams are very evenly matched in this one. QB Carson Palmer should have a great evening with two fantasy weapons at wide receiver like Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald. But Arizona’s secondary will be tested early and often against San Diego’s tandem at tight end in Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green.”

“Look for a shoot out on Monday night in Arizona.”

Adam’s Pick - Arizona Cardinals by three over San Diego Chargers
