Reportedly, Adam Lanza's body was claimed by his estranged father recently. Peter Lanza, who divorced Nancy Lanza years ago, is said to have received his son's remains for burial. However, for family privacy and safety, very little details are available about Adam Lanza's funeral or final resting place.
ABC News, in a Dec. 28 report, confirmed that Adam Lanza's body was given to the custody of his father, who hasn't had contact with his son in years.
While his mother, Nancy, and the victims in the horrific shooting were laid to rest in respective funerals, Lanza's body has been held by the medical examiner for an autopsy. Additionally, the decision was made to study his genetic profile to determine what could have set his violent episode in motion.
Lanza's father released this statement shortly after the massacre by his son:
"Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost loved ones and to all those who were injured. Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy. No words can truly express how heartbroken we are. We are in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can. We too are asking why..."
The 20-year-old committed suicide, after using his mother's Bushnell AR-15 assault rifle to kill her, 20 children and six adults.
With Adam Lanza's body claimed by his father, perhaps, the healing from the Sandy Hook shootings can begin for everyone.
