Adam Lambert raises awareness of ‘Friendfactor’ gay rights organization (VIDEO)

Adam Lambert has really taken a stand for gay rights over the last several months, using his superstar status to spread the word about the movement. This morning he took to twitter to share with his fans another gay related organization, “Friendfactor.” Friendfactor is “a pioneering a new model of online organizing that will bring new supporters to the gay rights movement.” They use the term “gay” to represent the entire LGBT community, which includes lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals. You can learn more about the organization by watching the video to the left of this article. According to the organization’s website, the purpose is for friends to come together to stand up for their gay friends' rights:

“Through public education and advocacy tools, Friendfactor cultivates new ‘champions of freedom,’ people who, when asked to support their gay and transgender friends, will do so. Gay friends matter more than gay issues for most people, but many friends don’t know what’s at stake or how to help, and most gay and transgender Americans don’t know how to ask. Friendfactor seeks to fill that gap and shift the gay rights dialogue away from ideology and toward a more personal and inclusive concept: friends helping friends.”

This morning Adam tweeted about the organization, giving it exposure to his almost 1 million twitter followers:

"Check out Friendfactor: http://t.co/6Mq1lve"

Upon seeing Adam’s tweet, Friendfactor responded to him with a tweet of its own:

“@adamlambert You rock! Become a Friend-setter to win marriage in NY! #friendfactor www.friendfactor.org/register

In addition, the charity’s founder, Brian Elliott, responded:

“@adamlambert I'm Friendfactor's Founder. I can't thank U enough! Interested in setting a pg up like this? http://bit.ly/fCJJqo

Adam's fans have shown immediate support of the organization upon learning about it from him. Many are assuming that Adam will be at the Friendfactor New York launch event and are already buying tickets to attend. In fact, so many people went to the ticketing website to buy a ticket that it crashed their website:

“@adamlambert’s fans are the best, but the insane about of traffic from the tweet has hiccuped out server momentarily. Thk u 4 ur patience”

Friendfactor also tweeted:

“Our ticket site is up again! Get tickets for our NY launch at http://friendfactoraccelerator.charityhappenings.org

"Lesson learned. When Adam Lambert tweets about your event, the ticket site will crash. A good problem to have!... http://fb.me/zKZgMyg9"

However, as of yet, there is no confirmation that Adam will be at the event. Most likely, people think he will be there because of his tweet and the fact that he was seen arriving in New York last night. Yet, the event is still two weeks away, on May 3. It is also likely that Adam’s local fans are buying tickets to the event regardless as to whether or not he will be there, just because they want to support this great cause.

Adam has actively supported other charities in recent months. For instance, last month he released a special Billboard remix of his song Aftermath, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is an organization whose goal is to end suicide among LGBTQ youth. He also made an "It Gets Better" video against bullying.
