Adam Lambert posts birthday wish list

Adam Lambert turns 28 today, January 29, 2010.

So what do you get for the 28-year-old American Idol runner up who has everything? A document scanner, 20 heavy duty binders, some masking tape and, of course, a karoake machine-all requested items from public school art programs from around the country.

Adam Lambert has asked friends and fans interested in giving him a gift to instead give a gift to one of the many public school art programs desperately in need of support.

Adam Lambert has compiled a list of hundreds of items requested from public school art programs around the country for interested family, friends and fans to browse from on a website called DonorsChoose.org

Music and art education have received crippling blows from administrators in the Los Angeles County public school system in the past, but efforts to restore arts programs in LAUSD began gaining steam over the last decade.

A $400 million state grant intended to be used for Los Angeles County school arts programs was slashed completely in an effort to balance California's abyssmal budget. After a rash of arts educator layoffs throughout the county last year, LAUSD is now threatening to lay off more than half of the county's remaining elementary school arts and music teachers in 2010.

Adam Lambert selected hundreds of items requested by teachers from public schools in Los Angeles County and across the nation for his birthday wish list.

I made my donation to Donor's Org last night and will probably make another one. Go to twitter and look up Donor's Org. On their list of tweets they have the Adam Lambert Birthday link to donate in honor of his birthday. As of last night his fans raised $25k in honor of his birthday.

This is SO COOL! It's a really great idea. I'm really uncomfortable with the way that people just hand over all the money to the Red Cross and assume it's really going to get to the people of Haiti. What Adam Lambert has done is shown a concrete way that you can help kids in your community and actually know where the money is going!

Happy Birthday to a generous and kind person and an amazing performer. Can't think of a better way to direct birthday gift wishes than to a charity. Adam Lambert is a class act.

Adam is loving, thoughtful and giving. His loyal fanatic fans (me included!) also open their hearts and wallets to charities that Adam asks us to support in lieu of personal presents for him. How better to show our support, love and birthday wishes to HRH! Have a wonderful 2010 Adam, we love you!

Adam is such a sweet, caring soul! He's so generous- he's been asking people to donate to charities for years now instead of giving him birthday presents. Who else does that? Especially not other celebs, who are probably lavished with expensive gifts they don't even need on their special day. No offence intended.

I hear Adam's been doing other charity work too, with an organisation that provides water to children in third-world nations. Keep up the great work, Adam! ;)
