On January 12th, GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) announced their nominees for the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Among categories showcasing television, film, and journalism, Adam Lambert was among the five artists nominated for Outstanding Music Artist. Other contenders for the category include Brandi Carlile, Lady Gaga, Gossip, and Otep.

From their web site, GLAAD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

The Media Awards were created in 1990 to "recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives." The first Outstanding Music Artist award was given out in 2004, at the 15th annual awards ceremony.

The awards ceremonies for the 21st Annual Media Awards will be held in New York on March 13, 2010, in Los Angeles on April 17, 2010, and in San Francisco on June 5, 2010.
