Every December, the New York radio station Z100 presents its all-star Jingle Ball holiday concert, featuring some of the hottest pop stars who light up the charts. For Jingle Ball 2009, held December 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the concert’s lineup of performers included Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Justin Bieber, Kris Allen, the Fray, Jordin Sparks, Boys Like Girls, Pitbull, Jay Sean, Owl City and Ke$ha.
I had a chance to catch up with some of the stars backstage in the official H&M Artist Gift Lounge, produced by On 3 Productions and featuring products and services from H&M, Wonka, Spin Master, Duracell, Hasbro, MorrocanOil, 5 Gum, Merkury Innovations, New York Health and Racquet Club, Forever Mariah Carey, Marchon, Verizon Wireless and Lesportsac. Teen sensation Bieber (who, at separate times, shared the stage that night with Sparks and his mentor Usher) was in good spirits despite having a broken foot. Sparks and Allen weren’t the only "American Idol" alumni in the house. Allison Iraheta and Syesha Mercado also stopped by the gift lounge to pick up some goodies. Adam Lambert was also at Jingle Ball 2009, as a presenter, and he probably got more attention backstage than most of the performers did when they were backstage. Lambert was so in-demand that there was barely time to talk to him for more than two minutes. I also chatted briefly with the always charming Peter Facinelli (also a Jingle Ball 2009 presenter), who’s currently getting a lot of attention for his roles in the "Twilight" movies and the TV series "Nurse Jackie."
One of the biggest questions of the night was, "Is Taylor Lautner going to show up?" "Twilight" star Lautner is rumored to be dating Swift, and they were seen together at KIIS-FM’s Jingle Ball concert December 5 in Los Angeles, where Swift also performed. But at Z100’s Jingle Ball, Lautner was nowhere in sight backstage, even though he was in New York to host "Saturday Night Live" the following night. See what "Twilight" co-star Facinelli had to say about Lautner’s "SNL" hosting gig and more.

What do you have to say about all the controversy over your 2009 American Music Awards performance?
I look up to artists who shake things up and affect pop culture and society. It’s an important part of me.
What advice would you have to any of your fans who are insecure about their looks or their sexuality?
Really, really get out of the mirror. That’s not what matters. It’s hard. You have to reprogram yourself, especially in our society. Look at what matters.
JUSTIN BIEBER

This your first Jingle Ball in New York. What’s going through your mind, knowing that you’re going to be performing at Madison Square Garden? And what other Jingle Ball performers are you most looking forward to seeing?
I’m really excited. Taylor Swift. They’re all really good.
What are your thoughts on your Roosevelt Field Mall appearance in Garden City, New York that was canceled on November 20, because of all the stampeding fans who were practically rioting to see you?
Yeah, things happened. I’ll be back to Long Island real soon.
Anything you want to say to your fans who tried to see you Roosevelt Field Mall on that day?
Thank you so much for all your support. I’ll see you soon. Real soon.
You’ve become famous so quickly. How do you stay grounded?
I have a great group of people surrounding me. They don’t care who I am. They treat me like anyone else. And I’m never home.
What are your plans for the December holidays?
I’m going to be home with my family. It’ll be a little vacation.

Do you think they’re going to make "Breaking Dawn" into two movies instead of one?
Yes. I think it’ll be hard to make it one [movie] because of all the content [in the "Breaking Dawn" book].
What’s your favorite part of the holiday season?
Getting up in the morning and opening presents with my kids.
Can you talk about what’s going on with Season 2 for "Nurse Jackie?
The second season is fantastic. There’s so much going on in the second season. I think it’s going to be a really fun ride. All the characters have some really great storylines. For Coop [Dr. Fitch Cooper, Facinelli’s character on "Nurse Jackie"], he becomes a Twitter-holic.
Kind of like you?
Yeah. [He laughs.] Kind of like art imitating life.
Was it your idea to have him become addicted to Twitter or was it just a coincidence?
No, the ["Nurse Jackie] writers just came up with the idea. After they came up with the idea, I was actually teaching them about Twitter. So it was kind of fun. It was good that I knew a lot about it, because I had to talk a lot about it on the show.
So these medical characters currently seem to be a big part of your life, since you play a doctor in the "Twilight" movies and "Nurse Jackie." What’s the biggest perk about playing a doctor?
Getting to blow up those little rubber gloves and make balloons! That’s the most fun for me.
So you’ve finished filming "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." Have you kept in touch with what your other "Twilight" movie co-stars are doing since then and before you get back together to start filming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn"?
I don’t know what everyone else is doing. I’ve been busy working on "Nurse Jackie." I’ve been here in New York, so I haven’t really seen much of the ["Twilight"] gang.
What do you think about your "Twilight" co-star Taylor Lautner hosting "Saturday Night Live" on December 12? Are you going to see that?
Oh really? I didn’t know that. I’m going to be in Atlanta doing an autograph thing for charity, but I wish him the best of luck.
Would you ever want to do "SNL"?
I’d love to do "SNL"!
