For the next several months, we better all get prepared to hear all sorts of details about Adam Lambert's follow-up to "For Your Entertainment." Unfortunately, not all of them may be necessarily concrete in any shape or form.
We have already heard plenty of how Adam wants to refer to the sound of some of his recent hits for his next album (which should hit stores in late spring / early summer of next year), and he has now elaborated on these plans in a new published article from France (with the following serving as a loose translation):
"I have not yet started but I have ideas ... The next will be more focused on a particular topic. With the first I wanted to write something that gives the public an opportunity to know me overall as a kind of presentation. Now I wish that each disc has a more specific topic. You know what I mean? What is with 'For Your Entertainment,' that it gave me several options to take directions, and it made me aware of what was possible. The result will always rock but also electronica and pop. In fact it'll probably be in the vein of 'Whataya Want From Me.'"
So most of this by and large is information we have heard before, but the idea of honing in the topic in such a specific way is a new one.

In all honesty I don't care what Adam's songs are, it's hime that will make them, I would listen to him singing the phone book like has been said so many times! One thing I don't want is someone else's vision, I want it to be all Adam's vision and I never want the musicians to drown out what is the most phenominal talent this Universe has ever discovered, Adam Lambert!!
this website is very good, you can go and see it

We wan to read about Adam Lambert, not your shoes!
I agree with Roni. Adam should be in control.
One thing many fans have said though is they would like to see a bit of ROCK on the next cd. We all know that pop sells but having seen and heard his cover of Purple Haze and Whole Lotta Love in Cologne, he should do a duet with an established Rocker. (just my opinion)
I can hardly wait for Adam's next album! However, for AN ACCURATE and COMPLETE translation of that French article (thanks to another Canadian! Yeah bilingualism!) see @alreference twitlonger here: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/7lshtn Adam always seems so much more relaxed and talkative in other countries, n'est pas?
He loves Europe - freedom to be his complete "way over the top" self.
I like something in the line of Sure Fire Winner, IIHY, Time for Miracles but anything he sings will be OK with me.
I too agree w/ Roni. I will listen to anything Adam sings as I haven't come across a mistep in his choices yet. Whatever he puts together the important thing is he has to like it enough to sing the songs , live on tour for at least as many dates if not more than he had this year. Adam bores easily so each song needs to connect w/him strongly.
All I hope is that they spotlight his beautiful vocals and not the music. Can't wait to have it in my hot little hands.
I listened to your interview on Blog radio and saw your commercial!! Love you Matt!! Now to answer your question - I would like him to do radio friendly songs. If only to hear him on the radio every day. Love Scissor Sister but you never hear them on the radio. I think he needs some radio hits.
I happen to like the LAMBERT sound ... multi genre with ADAM calling the shots. ADAM is a musical GENIUS ... the songs he has written are just as good as the tried 'n true songs from 'established' songwriters .. IMO ... and as long as ADAM likes the way it sounds I KNOW I'm gonna LOVE it!!!
I will buy whatever music Adam creates. His vision for his sophomore cd intrigues me. Can't wait. I want him to create radio-friendly songs so next time around we hear alot more Adam on the radio (and tv too would be iceing on the cake)
Adam is unique among pop singers. He has a voice! He wants to do pop rock. I just hope that whatever he does, the song isn't overproduced where his voice takes 2nd place to the synthetic sounds. His accoustic release shows what he can do vocally, and I find myself listening to that much more than the original numbers on the FYE album.
Not asking for totally accoustic but don't want the crazy sounds like we hear in the beautiful Can't Let You Go. The background overtakes the voice. Not a good thing with the vocal abilities Adam had. He shouldn't have to fight with the background to be heard, and he even had to do that during parts of his concert. Noise for the sake of noise isn't pleasing.
Watch it, if you say he only attracts older women you usually get hammered on these sites.
I listen to top pop 40 here in western Canada almost every day and America's Top 40 on weekend mornings and as much as I love "over the top" Adam and FYE he has to send singles to the top of the pop charts next cd. Pop SELLS and we want him to be successful. He's up against tough competition in the U.S.
In my opinion, Soaked and Sleepwalker are just too "deep" for top 40.
Having said that I still hope he wins another international award at our Canadian Grammys, the Junos, in March.
At Adam's New Zealand and Sydney concerts (was at both), there were predominantly people in teens, twenties, thirties...of course there were his older lady fans too but I think outside of USA, he has a much younger demographic than within it. I would think his first CD was very successful - sold more than a million worldwide which is very rare nowadays. Also, he is huge already...massive fanbase which meant he sold out concerts all over world and made a profit...internationally he is well loved and I think those of us outside the USA are like - get over the gay thing AND the age of fans thing...just enjoy!
I would love to hear a more rock vibe to this next album, even tho it could be difficult to get his rock songs played on the radio. If his management only plans to release approx 3 - 4 at most cuts per album to the radio, he should to a half and half - half pop songs that can be marketed to radio, and the other half rock centric songs to appeal to his fans who love the rock side of him. Will make for a kick ass next tour. Whatever he puts out I am sure I will love.
Also - Just wanted to wish you Happy Holidays Matt, whatever it is you might celebrate with your family, I hope it is joyous. Always appreciate your articles!
gentl , please go troll someone else. We are having a serious conversation here, boy. peace.
Adam could sing the phone book and I'd buy it!! LUV HIM!
I am so looking forward to Adam's new album and pretty much trust him to make a great album, but I hope he doesn't go too electronica and stays closer in to rock pop. His vocals are so remarkable they should be show cased and not over produced.
The next album is gonna be epic. <3
Cant wait!! GO ADAM!! <33
Musically, he could go down almost any path and please me. I have such an appreciation for his voice and presentation--nothing would disappoint me. Still, I am hoping that he co-writes all the tracks on the album and collaborates with Monte Pittman and other talented friends. Aftermath, for instance, is a product of such a collaboration and it has superior elements and would probably be a hit if it were to be released in US. I also hope he will work with his band and strip some of the production of FYE.
The thing with Adam is that his vocal range is such that he can sing any type of music perfectly - pop, r&b, operatic, rock, etc. In a perfect world I would love Adam to put out mutiple cds of every flavour music. I too appreciate his vocal gift and appreciate Adam as a uniquely talented and gracious, loving person. Whatever Adam has in store for us in his next CD I am confident it will be EPIC !
Hi Matt: Heard you on the J and X show. You are very articulate and knowledgeable about the music business. Thank you so much for being a big fan of Adam's. I love reading your articles and appreciate the many times you mention Adam and his accomplishments. You're a great guy!
I agree with other posters - I just want Adam to do what he wants to do on his CD and in the way he wants to do it. He doesn't really need us telling him what to do. But I'm glad he does try to pay attention to "what works" from his tour (but, like really, what didn't work, lol) and that he takes into consideration what people like. One of my wishes would be for him to do another EP or CD with all nice, slow, relaxing, beautiful songs I could play while falling asleep, in the vein of his EP WWFM. It's so beautiful. The clarity on the EP amazes me. And if he ever sang a Christmas song (although that may not happen), my heart would just melt.
Less electronica, less dance if you ask me. If he learned anything from that acoustic album it's that his voice should be leading the way. WWFM and Mad World acoustic are nothing less than stellar. Those two are great songs. He needs great songs coupled with that great voice, period.
More "RocK" on the next album... and screaming too...... yes more Rock please
I just want to listen to him blow the roof off with many great songs! His vocals are incomparable. The sounds he makes are truly inspiring. Inspire us, Adam!
I always enjoy reading your articles Matt. To answer your question, I would buy and listen to anything Adam releases. I do hope that his voice is featured with less music drowning him out. He has the most incredible voice and it has been so long since I have enjoyed listening to an artist this much. I can't wait for the next album!!
