Adam Lambert's popularity has done nothing but rise since he was the runner up in the last season of American Idol. Much has been said about him and his musical style, and with a new album coming out soon it is time for fans to decide: is he a Broadway figure, or a true rockstar?
Lambert's career has been succesful in more than one aspect in the past months. His version of the song "Mad World'", which he performed on American Idol, was chosen as the theme for the preview of the much anticipated new ABC show Flash Forward. He has a song on the soundtrack of the upcoming movie 2012. He has collaborated with many important people, like Linda Perry and RedOne (Lady Gaga's producer), on his upcoming debut album, out on November 24th.
Furthermore, his invitation to fans to make a donation to Donorschoose.org instead of sending him gifts spawned a charity contest that raised over $185,000 dollars and reached over 72,000 students, all thanks to donations made by fan groups eager to win the chance to chat with Adam Lambert online. The contest ended today, September 20th.
Clearly, Adam Lambert is already a huge star. But what kind of one? Does it matter? On the one hand, he has the voice, the showmanship, and the musical theater experience to be a very important and recognizable Broadway figure. On the other hand, he has the voice, the style and the edginess to be a true rockstar.
Then there are the comments made by important rockstars, each defending one point of view. In May, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons wrote the following on his website after performing with Adam Lambert on the Idol finale: “Respectfully, I don’t think Adam is a rock singer. He sounds much more convincing singing ballads and Broadway shows. His voice doesn’t seem to have a ‘rock quality.’ But, I’m sure he’s going to do just fine.”
More recently, MTV News reported that Queen guitarist Brian May had something completely different to say about Adam Lambert after hanging out with producer Rob Cavallo and hearing the track "Time for Miracles'" from the 2012 soundtrack: "I have to say I was completely blown away ... it's truly sensational. In fact it's so obviously a number one smash, any bookie would be mad to take bets on it. I am not kidding. I'm not easily moved to jelly by male vocalists ... but Adam's voice reaches out with sensitivity, depth, maturity, and awesome range and power which will make jaws drop all around the world. Its an awesome performance. No doubt about it. The world of Rock has a bright new star."

Well firstly anyone with ears knows the answer to the supposed big question, Adam Lambert can sing anything and will succeed at whatever he wants to do. Gene Simmons is an egomaniac who will say and do anything for attention, he was booted off early the 3rd rate C list Celebrity Apprentice show for gods sake. Kiss is a fun but unchallenging group that is great at marketing. Meanwhile Brian May is an intelligent musician that was part of one the most epic rock bands in history who worked with one of the best rockstars in history, whose opinion should we listen too?
Adam can do anything. I would like to see him as a rock star first, but go back to theatre after, as long as that show travels. Can't afford to go to NY. I wish him great success.
Adam can be anything because he is good looking, articulate and multi-talented. He can be a true rockstar, a broadway figure, a model, a talk show host, a presenter, an actor, etc. But right now I can't wait to hear new music from him!
Adam are able to cant sing anything but like he said he just want for now in the time of his life to be a Rocker Star and register the CD'S and make many solo concert all around the world. If you ask that its because you probably tell us the Adam are theatrical? He his not much theatrical than ( LADY GAGA)who she put on her body the clothes like she works on BROADWAY and same for the legend KISS who have all they clothes like he work also on theater.
MARLYN why you tell you want to see Adam as a rock star and after go back to theater? Why theater do you know how many peoples fan's dont have the chance to go see him in BROADWAY and Adam make works on theater since he have 10 years old and he want to chance that, he tell many times how much he are not happy now to play on theater. He prefere to make a rock star and sang his songs all around the world..You need to forget the BROADWAY once and for all. for Adam
I picked both because he can easily do both. It will depend upon where his interests lie at any given time. I do not give any credence to Simmons' comments -- the guy is an attention whore and jealous has-been whose once-OTT group was totally owned by Adam Lambert on the Idol stage. So he snarks on Adam and gets attention and tries to deflect the reality that Adam was the only one people were seeing on that stage. Because, having seen Adam in concert, how anyone could say that he's not a rockstar is smoking something with hallucinogens in it.
You already know that I looooooooooooooooove Adam Lambert!
Adam has already made it clear time and time again that he went into musical theatre as a child but when he started to discover other music his ambitions moved elsewhere. He carried on doing musical theatre to bring the money in.
Sadly, there is such prejudice in the recording industry against those with a musical theatre background that even a talent like Adam's didn't stand much chance of a recording contract without taking the ultimate gamble that is public judgement.
Anyway, does the Examiner have nothing better to do than regurgitate old articles?
It's time for the reader to decide ...............
The Examiner: Unimaginative waste of bandwidth or unforgiveable waste of half a rain forest?
obviously Adam can do anything he sets his mind to
yeah Adam, Yeah Brian May, I think Adam skareed Gene Kiss person with his Fab Talent, Good Looks and Platform Shoes
I respect the opinion of BRIAN MAY ... he has worked with one of the best rock singers of the 20th century. If he says ADAM can be a rock star who am I to disagree? I agree with the other poster who said ADAM can sing anything because he can ... go to Youtube and watch and listen to this AMAZING young STAR ... see if you don't agree.
