Actress Viola Davis to star in Shonda Rhimes' new series for ABC

Actress Viola Davis is joining forces with super-producer Shonda Rhimes for a new legal drama on ABC. The series titled “How to Get Away With Murder” will star the two-time Oscar nominee and will be executive produced by Rhimes for the network according to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.

Davis will play law professor and defense attorney Annalise DeWitt who’s described as ruthless in both the classroom and courtroom. It’s a return to the small screen for Davis who has had roles on “Law & Order: SVU”, “City of Angels” and “The United States of Tara”.

“How to Get Away With Murder” is the latest from Rhimes’ who currently has the hit shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” on the network.

As for Davis she will next been seen in the James Brown biopic “Get on Up” playing the soul legend’s mother Susie Brown. “Get on Up” is set to arrive in theaters later this year. She is also currently shooting the film “Lila & Eve” with Jennifer Lopez.
