Patrica Neal was known for her distinctive voice. It wasn't gravelly, however it wasn't silky either. Whatever you call it, her voice was sexy.
Ms. Neal won an Oscar in 1964 for the film 'Hud' which also starred Paul Newman. She also won a Tony for 'Another Part of the Forest'.
Tragedy struck Patricia Neal and her then husband, writer Roald Dahl, when their son was killed in a traffic accident. The couple also had a daughter who died of measles.
Further tragedy struck when Ms. Neal had three strokes that left her in a coma for three weeks. She was pregnant at the time. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Lucy.
Dahl helped her through the paralysis and she was able to walk and talk again. Patricia even acted again and was again nominated for another Oscar.
Patricia Neal died Sunday of lung cancer.
