Those of you who visited Disney’s Art of Animation Resort recently may have been treated to a surprise by an under the sea actor - Pat Carroll. Carroll, the Voice of Ursula in “The Little Mermaid,” a true Disney classic, stopped by the resort for a special ceremony in the lobby.
According to the Disney Parks blog, the ceremony celebrated Carroll and her legendary work as an actress and to honor the 25th anniversary of “The Little Mermaid.” During the ceremony, she added her signature to the resort’s feature chandelier. The chandelier features an array of 77 different animation storyboards from many of Disney’s classic films.
In addition to Carroll appearing at the ceremony, guests were treated to a surprise visit from Walt Disney Imagineer Joni Van Buren. Van Buren had sculpted the Marquette that was used to make the resort’s giant Ursula icon. She brought with her some of her original works of art to show guests.
Signing the resort’s feature chandelier is an honor that will only be given to a select few. Those selected will have made major contributions to the four animated films that are represented on this unique display.
So the next time you are visiting the Walt Disney World Resorts, take time to stop by Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to see the feature chandelier and the Ursula icon.
