Actress Laura Linney, 49, welcomes son after secret pregnancy

They say it’s hard to keep anything a secret in the wacky and wild world of Hollywood. One savvy actress has beaten the odds, though. According to the New York Daily News on Jan. 18, 49-year-old Laura Linney kept her pregnancy and the birth of her son a total secret.

Laura Linney and husband Marc Schauer welcomed baby Bennett Armistead Schauer on Jan. 15. In a statement to Hollywood Life, a representative for the actress said, “Mother and baby are happy and healthy.”

How did she do it? Linney stayed rigorously out of the limelight. The last time Linney was photographed was in June 2013 when she attended the Women in Film's Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Then she effectively disappeared.

Why did she do it? Maybe she’s just a very private person. Or maybe it’s because she knew that the fact of her being pregnant for the first time at 49 would set off a paparazzi feeding frenzy in a town where there’s a camera hiding behind every nook and cranny.

Laura Linney has most recently seen in the TV series “The Big C.” She has appeared in many films such as “Hyde Park on Hudson,” “The Truman Show” and a TV miniseries about John Adams.

Linney and Schauer were engaged in 2007 and married in 2009. The actress will turn 50 on Feb. 5.
