Actress Krysten Ritter of “Apt. 23” to Host Great American Pillow Toss

On Tuesday, July 17, 2012, The Carpenter Co. and SleepBetter.org will take over Campus Martius for the inaugural Great American Pillow Toss (GAPT). Actress Krysten Ritter of ABC’s “…Apt. 23” will talk about how important sleep is for hard-working people to live healthy, productive lives. Ritter is one of an estimated 41 million Americans who reportedly have trouble sleeping.

But don’t expect this event to put anyone to sleep! To get Detroit and America going on the Great American Pillow Toss, Ritter will ceremoniously “toss” the first pillow from a 20-foot tall, Punkin Chunkin catapult. Why? Because a simple way to improve sleep is to toss old, tired pillows, mattress pads and other bedding that maybe disrupting your sleep.

Hundreds of new pillows will be given away in exchange for the worn-down pillows that Detroit citizens bring to the event (up to 200). Throughout the event, those old pillows will be catapulted across Campus Martius or compacted in a garbage truck by bio-suited GAPT “technicians.”

Carpenter Co. and SleepBetter.org will also make a special check presentation to the Detroit Rescue Mission.

When: Tuesday, July 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Who: Krysten Ritter of ABC’s Apt.23

Where: Campus Martius Park (800 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226)
