An interview with the beautiful and talented actress Katie Elizabeth.
Please introduce yourself to the readers:
My name is Katie Beresford but more commonly known as Katie Elizabeth. I have been performing in the entertainment industry for sixteen years and I landed my first professional role at the age of seven.
How and when did you first get into performing?
When I was seven, my mum encouraged me to join Stagecoach, a drama school designed to teach young performers to sing, dance and act. Since joining the school, my passion for performing grew.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
This may sound cheesy, but my mum has been the biggest inspiration to me. She has always encouraged me to follow my dreams, she's never pushed me into this career. She always tells me 'Don't be afraid to fail, be afraid of regret'. She keeps me both grounded and inspired everyday of my life.
What kind have training have you done?
After my ten years at Stagecoach, I went on to study for two years at Mid Cheshire College. I graduated at the top of my class which landed me a three year scholarship at the University of Salford where I was awarded a Second Class Honors Diploma back in July 2012. I then decided to further my education by auditioning to get into a credited drama school. I always believe you can never stop learning especially with performing. It's forever growing and changing!
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
This is really hard! I think if I have to choose, it would be the character 'Ruby' from 'Stripped'. Stripped was a live piece of theatre set in a site specific location. I played the role of a stripper/pole dancer who strived for male approval. We performed the show in a strip club in Manchester to make the play feel 'real' for the audience. In order to take on the role of 'Ruby' I trained for three months in pole dancing classes along with training to build up my upper body. The hardest part of the role was having to strip in front of a live audience. The whole experience made me feel accomplished because the role pushed so many boundaries for me that I became fearless when it came to take on future roles.
What projects do you have coming up?
My next project is a film that I am producing and directing. I have a real passion for horror films and I am currently working on the sequel to my previous film 'Watched'.
Who would be your ideal co-star and why?
This is very easy for me! Leonardo Di Caprio, not only does he act but he produces and directs. All of his films turn to gold! He is a very talented, giving, passionate actor. Who wouldn't want to work with an actor like that? He brings excitement to his films and these qualities make him the 'ideal co-star'!
What are your plans for the future?
I am slowly progressing to the next chapter of life, I am hoping to make the move to LA and pursue my career further . Being twenty three years old, allows me the freedom to chase the dream and live with no regrets! When I was last in LA, it hit me how much everyone strives for the dream and that to me, is very encouraging and I think living in a city that is all about 'the industry' I feel this can only make me work harder for it.
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Like my Mum said 'Never be afraid to fail... only be afraid of regret'
