Actress from 1960’s sitcom ‘Green Acres’ has died

Mary Grace Canfield, better known as Ralph Monroe, from the 1960’s television series ‘Green Acres’ has passed away. She was 89. Canfield’s daughter, Phoebe Alexiades, said her mother was in a hospice at the time of her death and died from lung cancer on February 15.

On the show Canfield’s character worked alongside her brother Alf as a clumsy yet friendly handy-man. Always dressed in overalls, the pair never seemed to be able to finish painting one bedroom, much to the owner’s (Oliver Douglas) frustration. Oliver and Lisa Douglas were played by Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, a lawyer and high-society wife who live the big city to try living a simple life. The half-hour comedy lasted for about 170 episodes.

Canfield has also appeared in episodes of classic shows such as: ‘General Hospital,’ ‘Bewitched,’ ‘Hazel,’ ‘Adam-12,’ ‘Love American Style’ and ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’

Mary Grace Canfield was born in Rochester, New York. Lived in Maine after retiring from show biz, but later relocated to California. Canfield made her last public appearance in 2005 when she attended fellow co-star Eddie Albert’s funeral.
