Actress and activist Daryl Hannah from “Splash” and “Blade Runner” fame, Bobby Kennedy’s son Robert Kennedy Jr., civil rights leader Julian Bond and around 45 additional protestors were arrested today after they tied themselves to the White House gates in another protest against Keystone XL oil pipeline.

The Keystone Pipeline System is designed to carry synthetic crude oil from northeastern Alberta, Canada to multiple destinations in the United States, including Texas and the Gulf of Mexico.

All-in-all, 48 protestors tied themselves to the gates outside the White House with plastic zip ties. When ordered to move along by police, the activists refused.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is not a fan of the pipeline.

“This is the dirtiest possible source and most expensive for the energy consumer and for future generations who will have to pay the price,” said Kennedy, an environmentalist who works with the Waterkeeper Alliance and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

“This is a boondoggle. It’s a giant criminal enterprise that has subverted democracy and will enrich a few billionaires and impoverish all of humanity by threatening civilization as we know it.” ~ Politico

Jack Gerard, CEO for the American Petroleum Institute said that “many more Americans welcome the pipeline and the fuel and jobs it would provide.”
