It is the music that we all grew up with from some of the greatest Broadway shows and Hollywood movies ever produced. I am of course talking about the music of Rogers and Hammerstein.
Actor’s Summit (Akron’s Professional Theater) will be opening their 15th season with the Rogers and Hammerstein revue “A Grand Night for Singing”. A preview performance will be held on Thursday, October 10th and the show will open on Friday, October 11, 2013 and will continue through November 3, 2013. Times for the shows will be 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Over 30 of Rogers and Hammerstein’s greatest hits will be performed at this twice nominated (Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical) for the Tony Awards (1994) musical review. It is a journey covering all aspects of love and romance from youthful infatuation, to marriage, to parenthood to the power of enduring love.
Such well known hits as “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” to “Some Enchanted Evening,” will be featured from such shows as “Carousel”, “Oklahoma!”, “The King and I”, “South Pacific”.
The cast will be made up of Actors’ Summit veterans and newcomers alike including Shani Carlson Ferry, Hope Caldwell, Justin Williams, James (Jay) Hill and Laura Best. The production team will have Deborah “Ingy” Ingersoll, Musical Director; Julie Goncy Shullois, choreographer; MaryJo Alexander, Director; Kenneth Leep and Brianna Laybourn, Stage Managers, Kevin Rutan, Lighting and Sound Design; and Fred Sellers, Head Carpenter.
Tickets for A Grand Night for Singing are on sale now through the box office at 330-374-7568. They are also available on line. Preview tickets are $20.
Tickets for all other performances are $33 for adults, $28 for seniors over 65; and $10 for all students under 30. Season subscriptions are available and range in price from $98 to $150 for all 7 shows.
The theater is located on the sixth floor of historic Greystone Hall (located at 103 High Street) Sixth Floor in downtown Akron. The facility features barrier free access, free parking, and full bar service.
