March marks the start of the audition season for many actors in Seattle seeking employment. The Theatre Puget Sound Unified General auditions take place March 10 to March 13. Every year, a number of local theaters and freelance directors use the auditions to cast their upcoming shows.

These two- to three-minute slots fill quickly and applications are now closed for TPS auditions 2014. Founded in 1997, the arts advocacy program provides rehearsal and performance spaces for many smaller organizations and produces the annual Gregory Awards to honor achievements in local theater.

In past years, both Equity and non-Equity (union and non-union) theaters have used the TPS auditions to fill their callback sheets for upcoming summer and fall shows. Auditor registration is open now for those wishing to attend the auditions.

For those unable to make the Unified General auditions, Seattle Public Theatre and Taproot Theatre Company are working together and creating their own general audition on March 17. Actors coming to this session will be considered for both North Seattle theaters.

Actors can sign-up for a SPT/TTC audition slot by e-mailing Karen Lund at These three-minute spots will be scheduled on a first come, first scheduled basis. The auditions will be held at Taproot Theatre Company’s Isaac Studio, 208 North 85th Street. All actors must have made an appointment to audition.

Because Taproot and SPT artistic directors also attend the TPS General Auditions, only actors not participating in that event will be allowed to make a reservation for March 10.

The 5th Avenue Theatre will hold open auditions for singers in May, August and November. Audition dates are posted later in the spring on their website.

Additional audition opportunities can be found at the Theatre Puget Sound's website.
