“30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan is in critical condition following an early morning multi-vehicle pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike. The limousine bus Morgan was traveling in with several other passengers returning from a standup performance in Delaware Friday night; overturned in a crash involving two tractor trailers, two cars and an SUV. The crash happened about 1 a.m. Saturday morning near Cranbury Township. According to reports there is at least one fatality; 63 year old comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, a passenger in the limousine.
Also on the bus was comedian Ardie Fuqua; Morgan’s opening act in Delaware. Just a half hour before the accident, Faqua posted pictures of himself and the bus on Twitter and commented on how luxurious style of the bus on his Facebook page; according to TMZ.
It’s been reported that at least six others were injured in the crash. Morgan was transported by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Williams, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police stated that Morgan was in intensive care and in critical condition.
Authorities say that the limo Morgan was in was rear-ended by one of two tractor trailers, one of which appears to be a Walmart truck in photos of the scene. A 35 year-old metro Atlanta man is allegedly the truck driver that struck Morgan’s limo. Kevin Roper of Jonesboro, GA is expected to be charged with a single count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Bail for Roper has been set at $50,000.
Tracy Morgan’s career took off after being cast on the NBC late night sketch comedy “Saturday Night Live”. During his seven year tenure with the show, Morgan was cast mates with Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Maya Rudolf, Seth Myers and Will Farrell just to name a few. After leaving “SNL,” Morgan starred in his on show called “The Tracy Morgan Show”. After one season the show was cancelled. Morgan then went on to star in Tina Fey’s hit comedy “30 Rock” which also starred Alec Baldwin Jane Krakowsky.
